Pantry Helps Fuel Student Drive to Get to Classes
Coming from a one income household and battling some personal health issues, the decision to go back to school was a big step for me. When I completed High School, I worked on the administrative side of E.R. offices for about 10 years. After my family and I moved, I became a substitute teacher for a while. More recently, I realized just how much I loved helping people and talking to patients, so I made the decision to start Middlesex College Allied Health program.
My goal is to get into the nursing program.
The Community Resource Hub & Pantry really helps me a lot. Living in a one-car family, there are plenty of days I am stuck on campus but the grab & go snacks as well as prepared meals help me through my week. I’ve also appreciated being able to pick up essential items to help with groceries.
For some time last year, I was able to volunteer at the food pantry so advocating for students became second-nature to me. As a member of the Black Student Union and EOF, I learned who else might benefit from the assistance and let them know there is help. I am also a parenting student so I want to say to any type of student: Don’t be too shy or too proud to ask for help if you need it. That help could be just what propels your academic achievements!
